Equine Group

The equine group, created by INRAE, is currently led by personnel from ANSES and LABEO. It includes collaborators from INRAE and members of the main partners implicated in equine R&D (IFCE, VetAgro-Sup, Idele, Oniris, ENVA-Cirale, universities, …).

The group leads, either of its own initiative or by the Agriculture Scientific Direction of INRAE, different types of studies not only linked to the challenges of the equine sector but also with agriculture, climate change and conservation of biodiversity. The equine industry group contributes to:

  • prospective studies such as "The equine sector in 2030" (2012), "Equine research guidelines" (2014), or " Analysis of the sector's research plans" (2019). Other studies are underway, notably on welfare of equines and a prospective analysis "The equine sector in 2030" produced in 2012.
  • Multi-sector expert analyses "Towards high-performance agricultures" (2013), "The diversity of agricultures" (2017-2018), "Science for tomorrow's breeding" (2018), "Loss and waste" and more recently "Agroecology and the markets" (2021).

Some members of the Equine Industry Group participate in the scientific council of the equine sector, led by IFCE, https://www.ifce.fr/ifce/appui-filiere/comites-appui-filiere/conseil-scientifique/. They co-organize with IFCE a one-day yearly seminar for PhD students in the equine sector, https://www.ifce.fr/ifce/connaissances/colloques-et-conferences/journees-sciences-innovations-equines/, at Saumur.
